Farm Bureau Says Conservation Compliance Rule Needs Fixing

The USDA has finalized the Highly Erodible Land Wetland Conservation rule. The American Farm Bureau says the regulation falls short and needs to be fixed. Nebraska Farm Bureau Director of National Affairs Jordan Dux says in order to get needed payments including crop insurance, farmers have to be conservation compliant and the USDA with this regulation keeps changing the rules.

He says the Ag Department needs to provide more flexibilities with the rule’s requirements.

Dux says the other problem with this finalized regulation is that it’s interpreted differently in different areas of the country.

Dux says USDA’s rule needs clarity as well as needs to treat all producers fairly with their conservation practices and being in compliance.
