Wednesday, Farm Bureau leaders testified in front of the House Ways and Means committee’s subcommittee on the tariff impacts on agriculture and rural communities. South Dakota Farm Bureau President Scott VanderWal who serves as Vice President of the American Farm Bureau says the effects have been hard on all South Dakotans.
He says while farmers trust President Trump to make China play by the rules when it comes to trade, they’re the ones bearing the brunt of the trade war.
VanderWal says farmers want a solution to the trade war and are losing their patience. He says the tariff related losses are mounting daily.
Minnesota Farm Bureau President Kevin Paap says soybean farmers and pork producers are being hit the hardest by the trade war and tariff retaliation. He says markets are being lost and once lost, they’re difficult to regain.
