Thursday, U.S. Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack was in Japan and will be in China over the weekend. He’s meeting with his counterparts to talk about the Transpacific Partnership Agreement. Iowa Farm Bureau President Craig Hill says the Secretary will likely try to convince Japan’s lawmakers to vote to ratify the TPP.

Hill also expects the Secretary and U.S. trade officials to invite China to eventually join the TPP.

He says if they want to join TPP, China will have to abide by the rules contained in the agreement.

The Ag Secretary will join Trade Representative Michael Froman, Chief U.S. Agriculture Trade Negotiator Darci Vetter and Commerce Secretary Penny Pricraig-hill-importance-of-trade-trip-to-japan-and-china-cuts-for-website-11-20-2015tzker at the Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade.
