The 2021 Iowa Legislative Session is now in the books and it was a positive one for agriculture. That’s according to Iowa Farm Bureau President Craig Hill who says one of their major victories was getting property tax relief. He says lawmakers decided to pay for mental health services with general fund monies and not fund it with property tax revenue which was expensive for producers.

He says two other state legislative wins included getting more funding for water quality and boosting the nutrient reduction management system program as well as approving tax credits for beginning farmers and ranchers.

Hill says their one legislative disappointment was not being able to get passage of a biofuels bill but says they’ll make another stab at it next session.

Hill says Iowa lawmakers did a great job in approving their budget and the state is sitting in pretty good shape following the effects of the pandemic.
