A new nationwide poll indicates that a majority of farmers and ranchers favor Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton in the 2016 Presidential election. The Agri-Pulse Farm and Ranch Poll showed 55 percent surveyed back Trump while 18 percent are supporting Clinton. 2 percent plan to vote for Gary Johnson and 1 percent for Jill Stein. South Dakota Farm Bureau President Scott VanderWal says he’s not surprised by the poll results.

A similar AgriPulse poll conducted earlier showed respondents dissatisfied with the direction of the country, the farm economy and the regulatory environment. VanderWal says the state of the farm economy is a big issue.

He says the main issues the new President need to make headway on is improving the economy, reducing regulations and allowing farmers and ranchers to operate without so many stringent rules.

The recent Presidential Poll showed 15 percent undecided and 8 percent refusing to answer.
