Farm Bureau President Hoping For FTA With United Kingdom Despite Brexit Exit

British officials say a deal unveiled last week for Britain to exit the European Union would keep the U.S. from negotiating a free trade deal with the United Kingdom. That’s concerning to South Dakota Farm Bureau President Scott VanderWal. He encourages the Trump administration to move forward on trade discussions with the U.K and other countries.

He says whether it’s a trade pact with the United Kingdom, the E.U. or any trading partner, the U.S. needs to make sure any agreement eliminates non tariff trade barriers and is based on sound science.

VanderWal says it makes sense to work out a deal with the United Kingdom as the U.S. has a long history of friendly relations with that country.

European Union diplomats were scheduled to meet Friday in hopes of finalizing an exit agreement for the United Kingdom from the European Union.
