A poll released this week from the American Farm Bureau shows Chesapeake Bay watershed residents want state and local control over their water resources rather than the federal government. AFBF Vice President and South Dakota farmer Scott VanderWal says federal regulators need to listen to the nearly three out of four residents who called for local and state control in that poll.
The poll also pointed out that only 28 percent of residents in the Bay area trust the federal government.
VanderWal says that’s a very telling statistic given the fact local residents have taken several steps to voluntarily improve water quality in that area.
VanderWal says the poll also found 62 percent of the resident distrust the EPA when it comes to regulations.
More than 1,000 registered voters who live within the Chesapeake Bay were surveyed in that poll.
