The American Farm Bureau Federation is opposing the Build Back Better Act Reconciliation package being pushed by the Biden Administration. Nebraska Farm Bureau President Mark McHargue says his group is joining AFBF in opposing the legislation. He says while there’s a lot of funding in the bill that would be helpful for agriculture the overall cost and much of it going to social programs draws their opposition.
Farm Bureau is in favor of remain in the reconciliation package, mainly the stepped up basis provision but the rest of the bill is much too costly and burdensome for agriculture.
McHargue says the infrastructure bill that was just approved and signed into law also had high costs but did contain many provisions helpful for agriculture. He says those are the primary differences between Build Back Better and the Infrastructure legislation.
McHargue says with the Consumer Price Index at a 31 year high, Nebraska Farm Bureau fears the creation of new federal spending programs will only make inflation challenges worse
