Farm Bureau Opposes House Ag Labor Bill And Wants Better Immigration Reform

Recently the House passed the Farm Workforce Modernization Act, an immigration bill to provide a guest worker program to meet agricultural labor needs. The American Farm Bureau opposed the measure. Minnesota Farm Bureau’s Public Policy Director Amber Hanson Glaeser says while there were some positive components of the ag labor bill, it fell short of what they wanted to see.

She says the Farm Workforce Modernization Act failed to address the high cost of the H2A program.

Glaeser says they’ll work with the Senate to find a more comprehensive immigration measure that addresses the need for year round ag labor.

Glaeser says they tried to get the House measure fixed however no amendments were allowed on the floor, so the Representatives approved what was originally proposed with no changes.
