Reaching a trade deal with China may be a slow process. That’s according to Iowa Farm Bureau’s Director of Research Dave Miller, who just returned from a trade mission to China. He says after meeting with several Chinese government, and feed and grain industry groups it was apparent that while they want a deal, they don’t believe China has any trade inequities.
He says it’s unfortunate U.S. agriculture is bearing the brunt of the trade war, but he acknowledges there have been trade problems with China for many years that haven’t been resolved.
Miller is hoping eventually both Chinese and U.S. government officials will come to the table and work out a deal.
Miller says Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue and USDA officials are also working on options to help farmers and ranchers hurt by the trade war, but no details have come out yet.
