Farm Bureau Official Says Opening Up USMCA Not Advisable, Needs To Be Ratified

Nebraska Farm Bureau members want the U.S. Congress to ratify the USMCA trade agreement. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi however says the deal may need to be opened up so environmental and labor standards can be addressed. Nebraska Farm Bureau’s Director of National Affairs Jordan Dux says it’s not practical to open up the pact and would be difficult to do so anyway.

He says the Dems should be pleased with what’s in the agreement and should proceed with bringing it forward and voting for it.

Dux says another major reason USMCA must be ratified and soon is for the U.S.. to retain market share with it’s important trade customers, Canada and Mexico.

Dux says it’s also critical to get the USMCA ratified this summer before elected officials get embroiled in the election process this fall and early next year.
