South Dakota lawmakers will have several challenges this session coming up with dollars to meet the funding requests of farm and other groups. South Dakota Farm Bureau lobbyist Mike Held says dealing with the depleted state budget will dominate the discussion when the legislature kicks off Tuesday January 9 in Pierre.
He says Farm Bureau will be asking lawmakers to come up with funding for the Precision Ag building at SDSU.
Held says one of the holdover issues from the last session is the non-meandered waters compromise and they’ll be backing the Governor’s request for an extension of the sunset date.
Held also says they’ll be monitoring attempts to eliminate any of the sales tax exemptions provided for agriculture.
