Farm Bureau Leaders Testify, Offer Solutions to Financial Pressure

American Farm Bureau leaders testified last week at a House Ag Sub Committee that there are three steps that can be taken to help farmers deal with increased financial pressure. AFBF Vice President and South Dakota farmer Scott VanderWal says two of those include passing the Trans Pacific Partnership and getting rid of the Waters of the U.S. Rule.

He says a third action the Senate needs to take is passing a national voluntary biotech labeling bill.

VanderWal says of those three steps the one most likely to get done this year is passage of the TPP.

The decline of net farm income from 2013 to 2016 is a big concern for agriculture groups as it’s gone down to $55 billion this year from $123 billion 3 three years ago.
