American Farm Bureau President Zippy Duvall met recently with Mexican officials and the Biden Administration on trade and tax issues. South Dakota Farm Bureau President Scott VanderWal who’s American Farm Bureau’s Vice President says it was positive that Duvall met with the Mexican trade officials and helped them understand the importance of accepting biotech products.
Although the Mexican officials still don’t want genetically modified technology used for human food, did agree to the use of gm feed for animals. VanderWal says it’s critical to talk to all our trade partners about accepting sound science and advanced technology.
He says it’s also imperative that President Duvall talked to the Biden administration about the importance of retaining stepped up basis because its critical to the success of not only agriculture but also small businesses.
VanderWal says Farm Bureau will be weighing in with Congress and the Administration on keeping stepped up basis and battling against any increase in capital gains taxes negatively that impact farmers and rancher and businesses in the same way.
