Nebraska State Senators Jim Smith and Curt Friesen have plans to reduce or repeal a tax on business and farm property in the next legislative session. Nebraska Farm Bureau President Steve Nelson says while that could be helpful, the main focus of the Unicameral needs to be addressing skyrocketing property taxes and passing relief legislation.
In fact, he says the whole tax system in Nebraska needs to be rebalanced.
Nelson says Farm Bureau wants education properly funded but, but the burden for that needs to be taken off of property tax payers.
Nelson says he’ll work with state senators, other farm groups and the Governor to find a solution to the property tax problem. He’s hoping they’ll find a legislative fix.
