South Dakota lawmakers return to Pierre early next month for their legislative session. The major agricultural issues for the South Dakota Farm Bureau involves transportation funding, drainage and water management and ag land assessments. Farm Bureau’s Lobbyist Mike Held says one priority is trying to convince legislators to get funding to townships and counties for farm to market roads and bridges.
Held says he expects legislators to move forward on a different way to manage drainage and water issues rather than having it done by the various counties.
Held says he expects a lot of discussion on how best to assess ag land.
There are 39 days in the 2015 South Dakota Legislative session which begins January 13 with Governor’s Daugaard’s State of the State address.
