The ongoing trade war between the United States and China that recently escalated continues to negatively impact America’s farmers and ranchers. Nebraska Farm Bureau Senior Economist Jay Rempe says while agriculture has suffered a great deal from the trade war, it can’t be termed a recession yet.

He says however the trade war could lead the overall U.S. economy to a recession.

Rempe says in Nebraska, the trade dispute has effected all of agriculture with soybeans and pork hit the hardest.

Rempe says Nebraska’s beef producers have also been impacted by less skins and hides that normally are shipped to China going down since the trade war began.
