Farm Bureau Agrees With Poll Calling For ESA Revision

A Morning Consult Poll shows most Americans think the Endangered Species Act is outdated and needs to be revised. The survey shows 63 percent support modernizing the ESA and 62 percent believe the act should help with species recovery rather than cataloging changes in their populations. South Dakota Farm Bureau President Scott Vanderwal says that’s further indication the Act isn’t working.
Vanderwal says those poll results are good ammunition to bring to Congress in order to convince them to change the regulation.
Vanderwal says while his group supports saving wildlife facing extinction, the current ESA program is a failure.
The poll also shows that 49 percent of Americans favor having state or local authorities lead in recovery of endangered species rather than the federal government.
