Today is the deadline for farmers to make some key decisions governing their operations under the new farm bill. South Dakota Farm Service Agency State Executive Director Craig Schaunaman says it’s important for producers to register with their office today for their base acres and yield history.

Schaunaman says when farmers update their base acres and yield history they can also decide if they want to sign up for ARC or PLC.

That ARC and PLC deadline is March 31. USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack says nationally, 26 to 27 percent of farmers have already made their ARC PLC decision. Schaunaman says he can’t release state statistics on that yet but says South Dakota farmers are working well within the deadline so far.
