Family Farm Action Group Forms to Defeat King Amendment

The Family Farm Action Group has launched a campaign to convince Farm Bill conferees not to include the Protect Interstate Commerce Act in the final legislation. The group is headed by Joe Maxwell who is also the Executive Director of the Organization for Competitive Markets. He says the measure authored by Iowa Congressman Steve King gives more power to the federal government and takes away state rights.

He says they’ve been speaking with Congress since the House began work on the farm bill and want to make sure the conferees understand how detrimental the King Amendment is for farmers and ranchers.

Maxwell says Family Farm Action members are also talking with members of Congress while they’re on break to get their support for defeating the amendment when it comes up.

Maxwell says the King amendment would negate laws governing pesticide applications, farm labor, and consumer protections as well as transportation of commodities.
