Supply chain problems continue to disrupt agricultural production and make local food production more important than ever. That was the message at the Families Feeding Families event Saturday in Yankton, South Dakota. Yankton County farmer Brandon Van Osdel is president of the organization and says their goal is to provide an outlet for farmers and consumers to come together with a sense of community.
Van Osdel says the pandemic has amplified the important role farmers play in providing food in their communities.
Keynote speaker Trent Loos talked about the fragile state of the food and energy sectors. He points to the tight supplies and skyrocketing price of fertilizer as a supply chain disruption that is driving up food prices.
Loos also warned consumers they need to build a relationship with local farmers to source products like meat, milk and eggs because of the anti-animal agenda being promoted globally.
Around 250 community members turned out for the Families Feeding Families event.
