The man robbing an Omaha restaurant last week that resulted in three officers shooting and killing him, and a crew member with the reality show COPS was using an air soft gun. Omaha State Senator Burke Harr says that is the second time this year where someone in his district used a fake gun to commit a crime.
Last session Harr introduced LB 887, a facsimile firearm bill that would make it a felony if anyone used a pellet, paintball, squirt or toy gun to commit a crime. The bill made it out of committee but not to the legislative floor. Harr plans to re-introduce it and predicts it will be one of the first issues lawmakers address next session.
