Yesterday proponents gathered near Parker to get the facts about a proposed 6-million head chicken farm just northwest of the city. Ag United hosted the forum. President Richard Vasgaard says Peter Sonstegard, Vice-President of Sonstegard Foods, told the group they don’t anticipate a problem with flies or odor for the city of Parker as the manure will be handled responsibly and with new technology.
He says Sonstegard also addressed the site for the facility as there have been concerns with the location so close to town and the golf course.
Vasgaard says area farmers also learned about how the Sonstegard facility will use locally grown corn purchased from area farmers and elevators.
Company officials say it’ll have a $100 million dollar economic impact on the community, but also provide 150 jobs to the area. Concerned residents have filed a lawsuit against Turner County to try and stop the farm.
