SDSU Extension along with the South Dakota Soil Health Coalition, South Dakota Farmers Union and USDA Farm Service Agency are co-sponsoring a soil health and drought management workshop July 27 in Mitchell. One of those scheduled to address the group is SDSU Extension Soils Field Specialist Anthony Bly.
He says one of the most important things producers can do to enhance their soil health is keep the ground covered with residue.
Bly says if the soil is healthy it can help mitigate the effects of drought, although it can’t totally prevent it as there’s no substitute for water.
The workshop runs from 9 am until 11:30 am on July 27 at the Highlands Conference Center in Mitchell. There is no cost to attend but registration is requested.
