Central Iowa farmers have seen a lot of high moisture and some damaged soybeans this year. Iowa State University Extension Farm Management Specialist Steve Johnson says wet and or damaged soybeans should be harvested as soon as possible. He says it’s also critical to contact your crop insurance agent within 72 hours as the insured could be eligible for a quality adjustment as a part of multi peril crop insurance.

He says keeping soft records and reporting those are imperative.

Johnson says those soft records can suffice for the new Farm Service Agency Market Facilitation Program payment. He says those need to be sent to your crop insurance agent.

Johnson says if a crop insurance loss occurs then hard records will be required. Those include grain bin measurements, warehouse receipts, and settlement sheets.
