This week’s crop progress report noted that 88 percent of the corn has been planted nationally. Northwest Iowa farmers are well ahead of that with most all of the corn seeded and less than 10 percent of the soybeans left to go. That’s according to Iowa State University Extension Field Agronomist Joel DeJong.
He says despite the lack of a lot of heat units, the crop itself is looking good at this point.
DeJong advises growers to watch for cut worms and to get their weed management controls in place.
DeJong says weather conditions this spring have been much better than last year when an overabundance of moisture kept producers from planting in a timely fashion.
