The United States Department of Agriculture has extended the comment period for the Organic Check Off. The original comment period was scheduled to end June 19th, but thanks to the extension, has a new deadline of July 20th of this year. National Farmers Union President, Roger Johnson says it’s good the Ag Department is allowing more time to get as many viewpoints as possible.
Johnson says smaller organic producers are concerned that the proposal calls for a board makeup that includes more processors than producers. He says more time is needed to comment, because the organic check off is a very complex issue.
Johnson says the NFU is looking forward to submitting a supplemental organic check off proposal for consideration.
