This week is National Farm Safety and Health Week. Iowa State University Extension Ag Engineer and Farm Safety Specialist Kris Kohl says one of the more common farm accidents this year involves tractor rollovers as farmers are mowing ditches.

He says the excessive rains have also created difficulties for farmers hauling who end up rolling over their heavy equipment as they get to the edge of the fields.

Kohl says other accidents tend to happen when drivers are impatient and try to pass turning farm vehicles.

Kohl says during harvest there’s more farm equipment on the roads and many of those vehicles are traveling at night. So, drivers need to be patient and alert, plus recognize those slow moving vehicles are out there.
