Proponents of expanding gambling in Nebraska have fallen short of the signatures needed to place the issue on the November ballot.

Secretary of State John Gale says county election officials threw out nearly 42-Thousand of the 119-Thousand signatures gathered. . .

Gale says 35-percent of the signatures turned in by the group Keep the Money in Nebraska were thrown out for various reasons; many because those signing the petitions weren’t registered voters. . .

The group sought to have voters decide whether casinos could be located at horse tracks.
