The Environmental Working Group is urging companies not to rely on QR or quick response codes in order to comply with the new Biotech Labeling law. EWG Vice President of Government Affairs Scott Faber says many consumers don’t have the technology to access the QR codes or are not familiar with how they work.

He says companies need to go ahead with on package labeling so the information is right in front of consumers and very transparent.

Faber says by using only QR codes to inform consumers about what’s in their food only confuses them and makes them suspicious.

Faber says while it could take the USDA up to two years to implement the biotech labeling law, he’s hoping it will be sooner than that.
