EWG Disappointed With Registration Of Enlist Duo Herbicide

The Environmental Working Group is disappointed that EPA has approved Enlist Duo Herbicide manufactured by Dow Agro Sciences. E-W-G’s Senior Vice President of Agriculture and Natural Resources Craig Cox says combining 2-4-D and glyphosate puts a high concentration of the chemical into the environment with much of that to be applied in the Western Corn Belt.
Cox says the second major concern his group has is that Enlist Duo will lead to more herbicide resistant weeds worsening the problem.
He says in the long run farmers need to look at more sustainable practices like rotations and cover crops rather than relying on chemicals for weed control.
While E-W-G is concerned about the approval, both the American Soybean Association and National Corn Growers welcome its approval saying it gives farmers new systems to combat growing weed pressures.
