EWG Analysis Shows Over $19 Billion In Federal Payments Given To Farmers

A new analysis by the Environmental Working Group shows that for over 30 straight years, over $19 billion in taxpayer funded federal farm subsidies have been paid out to farmers. E-W-G Senior Vice President Scott Faber says that covered the years from 1985 to 2016.

He says most people support a safety net for farmers but their new analysis indicates it’s not a safety net but an entitlement.

Faber says they’ll be sharing this analysis with both Senators and Representatives as they craft the new farm bill. He says E-W-G at this point supports Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley’s farm payment limitation plan rather than what the House will reconsider on June 22 with their farm bill.

Faber says the next farm bill should ensure that farmers are getting help during tough times, not an annual annuity.
