National Biodiesel Board officials are responding to the European Union on their decision extending protectionist trade duties that have blocked U.S. biodiesel from the European market for the last six years. Biodiesel Board’s Ben Evans says the E.U. has extended those tariffs for another five years blocking any competition.
Evans says the irony is that U.S. biodiesel producers are not getting a U.S. tax credit for their production while E.U..producers are able to receive it..
He says part of the answer is with tax extender’s legislation currently before Congress. He says tweaking it would disallow the Europeans from getting the credit.
Evans says the U.S. Biodiesel industry is considering all of their options in battling back against the E.U.’s protectionist policy.
