The European Union Commission is considering letting its member countries decide for themselves whether or not they will accept biotech crop imports. South Dakota Corn Grower’s President Keith Alverson says that’s a trade concern that could impact shipments of U.S. commodity exports to those countries.
Alverson says if the E.U. Commission moves ahead with that, it would create real havoc for all commodity exports, not just biotech.
He says he’s hoping the U.S. Trade Representative’s office will weigh in on this issue and work with the E.U. to find a workable solution.
