Trade talks between the United States and European Union made little progress last week when negotiators met. National Cattlemen’s Beef Association’s Director of International Trade Kent Bacus says when it comes to global trade rules, the European Union is “a bad actor”, even worse than China. He’s hopeful U.S. negotiators will hold their feet to the fire in any possible trade deal.
He says the E.U. has lost a slew of cases at the WTO and continues to put up trade barriers including a ban on U.S. beef.
Bacus says the E.U. doesn’t play by world trading rules on various facets of agriculture, not just beef.
Bacus says the U.S. finally has a President that will take the Europeans to task and NCBA will support every effort by the President to get the E.U. to open up their markets.
