The European Union Parliament has adopted a resolution to stop E.U. authorization of three biotech soybean varieties. Minnesota Soybean Growers Association President Paul Freeman says he’s disappointed by the move and is hoping it can be resolved. He says the Europeans have been basing their opposition to this technology on non-scientific information.
He says while many E.U. producers want to use biotechnology most of the opposition comes from their consumers who are not getting accurate information.
Freeman is hoping Trans Atlantic trade negotiators will be able to iron out any biotech policy differences and come to agreement on a possible trade deal that includes biotech reforms.
The three soybean varieties targeted by the E.U. are from Bayer Crop Science and Monsanto.
