Ethics Reform on the Slow Track in Pierre

South Dakota legislators continue to consider bills that would replace portions of the now repealed IM22. That initiated measure was approved by voters last November, but lawmakers effectively repealed it earlier this session.

Senate Minority Leader Billie Sutton of Burke says they debated a bill creating an ethics commission, sponsored by Secretary of State Shantel Krebs………….

Sutton says the lack of an ethics commission leaves a big political financing loophole….

Sutton says democrats attempted to make some changes to the bill….

The bill was tabled in the Senate State Affairs committee on a seven to one vote. While not totally dead, it would take some legislative maneuvering to bring it back.
