Ethanol supporters rallied in Kansas City Thursday and testified at an EPA hearing regarding their Renewable Fuel Standard proposal. American Coalition for Ethanol Executive Vice President Brian Jennings says their primary message is there is a wide range of interests that want the agency to get the RFS right by getting the standard up to the statutory levels.
Jennings says even though the ethanol industry is producing above the statutory levels the standard is still needed to ensure the oil companies follow the law.
Jennings says the majority of those testifying want EPA to get those RFS volume levels higher than what they’ve proposed.
EPA’s proposal calls for cutting the RFS corn ethanol mandate by 3.75 billion gallons through 2016. They’ll be finalizing their proposal by November.
