150 ethanol plant managers across the country have written to President Donald Trump asking him to leave the Renewable Fuel Standard alone. Trump is proposing to lift the Reid Vapor Pressure rule to allow E15 use year-round, but in exchange for a two-year cap on RINs. Glacial Lakes Energy CEO Jim Seurer is one of the managers who signed the letter.
Trump has called a meeting this week to talk about what type of cap should be considered. Seurer says any cap would be disastrous for the ethanol industry. He says he and his colleagues are trying to send a strong message to the President.
Seurer says the President needs to realize that renewable fuels are a key part of the economy in the Northern Plains and the U.S.
In their letter the ethanol plant managers said that just expanding E15 sales is a solution for everyone as that growth would generate more RINs and ease problems for refiners.
