Friday EPA announced they won’t finalize the 2014 RFS volume requirements until 2015. American Coalition for Ethanol Executive Vice President Brian Jennings says that decision bodes well for the renewable fuels industry.
Jennings predicts EPA will likely base their RFS volume requirements on the RINS or amount of biofuels blended with fossil fuels that the obligated parties turned into the agency in 2014.
He says that’ll likely lead to an RFS level short of the 14.4 billion gallons that EPA had reduced with their earlier proposal. He says the good news is EPA isn’t agreeing with the oil companies blend wall theory.
Jennings says EPA will not only set the 2014 volume levels in 2015, they’ll also try to back on schedule in proposing the 2015 and 2016 blending volumes.
