Measures to completely repeal the Estate Tax are moving through both houses of Congress. The House Ways and Means Committee passed out one repeal measure, while the Senate adopted a similar bill last week as an amendment to the Fiscal year 2016 budget resolution. South Dakota Farm Bureau President, Scott Vanderwal, says his group supports both bills and has made that one of their top priorities. He thinks the chances for passing are pretty good this time around.
Vanderwal says the current estate tax, if left in place, could force many farmers completely out of business. He says another effect of the Estate Tax is that it could prevent younger people from getting into farming and ranching.
Vanderwal says his group is hoping to get enough Congressional support for the repeal bill that will withstand an expected Presidential veto.
