A measure to repeal the Estate Tax is expected up for a vote on the House floor today. Nebraska Farm Bureau National Affairs Coordinator Jordan Dux says his group backs the measure and that they’ve been building momentum for getting that approved.
Dux says the estate tax is not a tax on the rich but hits farmers and ranchers very hard. He says there was headway made a few years ago that placed the estate tax exemption at $ 3.5 million per person and a forty percent tax rate. He says even that level can be costly for producers trying to pass their operations down to the next generation.
Dux says there’s also a companion measure that’s being considered in the Senate. He says it’s been 10 years since the last estate tax repeal measure has been considered.
