How to transition the farm or ranch to the next generation will be covered in a series of workshops each day of Husker Harvest Days near Grand Island. One of the presenters is University of Nebraska Extension Educator Dave Goeller. He says they’ll cover several estate planning tools including fair versus equal and how does one value on farm contribution and make sure there’s fair compensation for that.

He says it’s important producers have some type of succession, estate and retirement plans in place.
It’s also important farmers and ranchers consider all the possible tax consequences.

Goeller says besides the workshops at Husker Harvest Days, they’ll be offering free farm transitioning programs in January and February of next year in Nebraska, Colorado and South Dakota. Specific details will come out later.
