Ernst Optimistic About RFS Agreement at White House and E15 Sales Soon

Iowa Senator Joni Ernst was part of yesterday’s White House meeting on the Renewable Fuels Standard. She says she’s pleased with the President’s commitment to allow E15 sales year-round, but admits she is not sure how soon the EPA Administrator will actually lift the Reid Vapor Pressure rule.

She says the other win for the ethanol industry was the President’s commitment to have EPA and USDA look at the plant waivers that are weakening the RFS.

Ernst is confident the ethanol industry will win their battle with the petroleum interests. However, she doesn’t think EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt has been following the President’s directives.

While Ernst says the RIN cap idea was killed by the President, there is still some uncertainty about whether or not EPA will allow RINs to be attached to ethanol exports and the legality of that move. Texas Senator Ted Cruz tweeted after the meeting that the President had already agreed to export RINs.
