Erdman Offers Property Tax Relief Bill in Unicameral

Late last week, Nebraska lawmakers held a hearing on LB 829, the measure introduced by Senator Steve Erdman of Bayard to provide property tax relief. He says support is growing for his proposed legislation.

He says the measure includes a refund or credit to property tax payers.

Erdman says it’s up to Senators to decide how to pay for the measure which is expected to cost $1.1 billion. He also says the Governor and lobbyists oppose the bill while homeowners, residents and farmers and ranchers support it. Erdman says the revenue committee will have to decide where they stand.

He says the process is clear on how the legislation will be handled in the Unicameral. First a hearing is held on the bill, then a committee hearing where the members either advance it for full floor debate, vote against it or take no action thus killing it.
