Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt is working to curtail the sue and settle policy. That policy was implemented under the Obama administration, where environmental groups would file a slew of lawsuits and the EPA would settle out of court rather than defend science based rules. South Dakota Farm Bureau President Scott VanderWal is pleased the EPA is changing that policy because agriculture’s been hurt by it in the past.
He says Pruitt is sympathetic to farmers and ranchers and understands their desire to protect the environment.
VanderWal says in the few years, some cases filed by environmental groups have been brought forward and the EPA immediately dropped their defense and settled out of court.
EPA Administrator Pruitt and Attorney General Jeff Sessions have scheduled meetings with Congressional committees to bring them up to speed on the new policy.
