EPA Tells Farm State Senators RFS Compliance Doesn’t Hurt Small Refiners

A group of farm state Senators has received a response from EPA stating that compliance with the Renewable Fuels Standard doesn’t hurt small refiners. Senators including Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst of Iowa, John Thune of South Dakota and Deb Fischer of Nebraska had written to Administrator Scott Pruitt with their concerns about granting of RFS waivers.
Iowa Renewable Fuels Association Executive Director Monte Shaw says that response doesn’t match up to recent EPA actions allowing some refiners to waive RFS compliance.

He says EPA’s response is also contrary to what EPA Chief Scott Pruitt told the President in a White House meeting last week.

Shaw says Pruitt isn’t accurately conveying to the President how oil refiners are being impacted the use of RINs for RFS compliance.

The Midwest Senators released a statement saying that the EPA’s response to their letter should put to bed any argument the RFS is hurting small refiners.
