Friday, the Environmental Protection Agency along with the Department of the Army set their “Step 2” rule that would redefine the Waters of the United States Rule for the Office of Management and Budget to review. Minnesota Cattlemen’s Association President Krist Wollum is pleased they’re moving forward with a rewrite of WOTUS and is interested in learning more about the specifics of the regulation.

He says the 2015 version of WOTUS put out during the Obama administration had several problems and was a broad overreach of federal powers over agriculture.

Army Civil Works Assistant Secretary R.D. James says they’re committed to listening public input and providing clear and transparent rules that ensure waters remain clean and the economy can continue to thrive. Wollum says cattle producers and farmers also want a clean environment to live in.

Wollum says they’ll be weighing in during the public comment period when the new WOTUS comes up and is published in the federal register.
