This week the Environmental Protection Agency sent the 2017 and 2018 renewable fuel standard volume level proposals to the Office of Management and Budget for review. Renewable Fuel Association Senior Vice President Geoff Cooper says he’s a bit surprised the agency sent the proposal as early as they did, considering their track record. However, he says gasoline consumption is rising and the EPA needs to make sure the RFS volume levels are raised and in a timely manner.
He says RFA has been weighing in on the issue with the EPA and telling them to put those levels at the statutory requirements.
Cooper says the best case scenario is the EPA getting the RVOS back to the 15 billion gallon statutory level.
Cooper is expecting the final RFS RVO rule for 2017 and 2018 to be published sometime in June, although it could come as early as May and as late as July.
