Yesterday the Environmental Protection Agency released its proposed rule to lift restrictions that will allow E15 to be sold year-round. American Coalition for Ethanol CEO Brian Jennings says while they welcome the move, they’re still skeptical EPA can get the rule finalized before the summer driving season.
He says the delay in the rule was the government shutdown and EPA’s insistence on attaching RIN reform to the rule. He says it should be separated.
Jennings says Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue has also talked about a Plan B if EPA doesn’t get the E15 rule finished by June 1, but they hope it doesn’t come to that.
Jennings says the benefits of E15 will be negated though if EPA continues to allow refinery waivers from the Renewable Fuels Standard and no reallocation of the gallons.
